COVID-19 in Virginia

Nine New General Assembly Candidates


In the last 10 days, VPAP added nine names to its unofficial list of 2019 General Assembly candidates.

Senate District 15

Matthew Kelly (R) is a second Republican who is mounting a primary challenge to Sen. Frank Ruff (R-Clarksville). SD 15 includes Charlotte County, Mecklenburg County, Lunenburg County, Nottoway County and portions of Brunswick County (Part), Campbell County, Dinwiddie County,, Halifax County, Pittsylvania County, Prince George County and Danville,

Senate District 19

Flo Ketner (D) is challenging Sen. Dave Suetterliein (R-Roanoke County). SD 19 includes Floyd County, and Salem City; and portions of Bedford County, Carroll County, Franklin County, Montgomery County, Roanoke County and Wythe County.

House District 13

Kelly McGinn (R) is challenging Del. Danica Roem (D-Manassas) HD 13 includes the City of Manassas Park and portions of Prince William County. 

House District 30

Anne Ridgeway (D) is challenging Del. Nick Freitas (R-Culpeper).  HD 30 includes the counties of Madison and Orange and portions of Culpeper County.

House District 34

Gary Pan (R) is challenging Del. Kathleen Murphy (D-McLean).  HD 34 includes portions of Fairfax and Loudoun counties.

House District 39

Nicholas Bell (R) is challenging Del. Vivian Watts (D-Annandale).  HD 39 includes portions of Fairfax County.

House District 57

Kathleen Galvin (D) is the second Democrat to seek the party's nomination in the district now represented by Del. David Toscano (D-Charlottesville), who is retiring. HD 57 the city of Charlottesville and portions of Albemarle County.

House District 91

Martha Mugler (D) is the second Democrat to seek the party's nomination in the district now represented by Del. Gordon Helsel (R--Poquoson), who is retiring. HD 91 the city of Poquoson and portions of York County and Hampton.

House District 96

Del. Brenda Pogge (R-James City County) announced her retirement Friday and endorsed her legislative aide, Amanda Batten, for the Republican nomination. There are three candidates running in a Democrtic primary. One Libertarian Party candidate also has announced. HD 96 includes portions of James City and York counties.
